Papeete (Tahiti)

Tahiti was formed from volcanic activity, and is divided into two parts, the bigger part Tahiti Nui and the smaller part Tahiti Iti. 


 Papeete is the capital city in French Polynesia, Tahiti.   Notre Dame Cathedral in the center of Papeete.

The PK0 sign in front of Cathedral. The roads of the island have road signs such as PK12 indicating the distance 12 km from here PK0.

The Papeete market called 'Marche'       The 2-story building has the area of about 7,000 square meters.

It has souvenirs for tourists and daily necessities for local people.

 Hinano is a flower's name of the pandanus, Fara and is the most popular girl's name in Tahiti.


Marae in Arahurahu near Papeete.  Marae was the altar of rituals. Two stone statues of Tiki standing at the entrance of Marae.



Marae has been the sacred place surrounded with stones based on Polynesian former culture.

This big tree is a pandanus called Fara here.  The leaves are materials of the roof of traditional Polynesian houses.

Fruits of the pandanus.  It looks like a pineapple but it's not to eat.
