Agra (India)

Taj Mahal in Agra        Taj Mahal  is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Great gate (Darwaza-i rauza),  the main entrance to the tomb in Taj Mahal.

The Great gate, constructed in red sandstone, is approximately 30 m high.

Taj Mahal was built by the 5th Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan, to house the tomb of his favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal.

Site: 580 m long, 300 m wide.   Base structure: 95 m square.  Tomb building: 57 m square.  Four minarets: 43 m tall.

Agra Fort    It was the main residence of the Mughal emperors until 1638, when the capital was shifted from Agra to Delhi.

 Musamman Burj , an octagonal tower standing close to the Shah Jahan's private hall Diwan-e-Khas in Agra Fort.

Fatehpur Sikri       It was a city which was founded in 1569 by the 3rd Mughal Emperor Akbar.

Due to water shortage, the city was abandoned after fourteen years.

The ruins of Fatehpur Sikri is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
